Grilled tofu skewers – perfect for the barbecue season

For the grilled tofu skewers press the tofu
The pressing is really important for the tofu preperation. Tofu usually has a lot of water and we do not want that. We want the tofu to soak in the spices and marinades. Without spices, tofu tastes quite neutral, or better tastes like nothing. And that’s the great thing about tofu, we can season it to our own liking. You can press this out by putting something heavy on the tofu or you can buy yourself a great tofu press, see below. If you want to prepare tofu more often, you can invest the money in a tofu press. I do not want to miss this one anymore. First, there is much, much faster and you have no more mess. Put the press upright and the water can drain off easily.
Freeze the tofu before using
If you freeze the tofu and thaw it again before you use it, the tofu will get a much better consistency. Give it a try and let me know how you like it.
Now it’s time to marinate the tofu
If you pressed the tofu, you can finally marinate it. The instructions can be found in the recipe card below. Cut the pressed tofu into the desired size or just leave it as a block. While you press the tofu you can prepare the marinade.
Use different vegetables for the grilled tofu skewers
Of course you can also take other vegetables. Just take what you like or just have on hand. For example Corn on the cob, mushrooms, tomatoes … Here you can really take what you like the most. In my opinion, the onions give a certain something.

- 2 tofu firm or super firm
- 6 EL Olive oil
- 6 TL tomato paste
- 5 EL Apple vinegar
- 8 EL Soy sauce
- 4 cloves of garlic
- ½ TL Chili
- Salt, Pepper, Curry, Paprika
- a few drops of liquid smoke
- Press the tofu it will take about 10 min in the press.
- In the meantime mix all the ingredients in a sufficiently large container. The tofu should fit too.
- Cut the tofu to the desired size, I cut it into cubes, and put into the container. Marinade the tofu on every side.
- Cover the container. If you have a lid, you can use it.
- Place in the refrigerator overnight.
